Had a great time with my friends! Well, I actually had a blast!

Our small group hauled in Saturday, and set up camp and got ourselves prepared for the long day ahead. While we were walking the course, in the pouring rain - we came across a bunch of Eventing Friends from the past, and were able to reconnect and share the day together.

I LOVE that part about Eventing - seeing old friends and buddies who share the same passion for this sport, reconnecting and catching up! :D

After we walked the course, we dried ourselves off and sat under the tarp that was set up between our trailers, in lawn chairs. Lots of great laughs and great people to share it with!

We enjoyed a fabulous BBQ and had a great time talking about life, past HT's, future HT's and more.

~~~~
So the day of the HT, Nelson and I were up against 10 riders, includig my Coach - lol. To be honest, the organizers of the HT didn't do a great job at keeping the competators in the "class" they registered for.
I signed up for BN Rider, and ended up in a group with competators who signed up for BN Horse - so there was a mixture of both Rider and Horse in each levels categories. So where I shouldn't of compeated against my Coach, when she was siged up for BN Horse, we still ended up in the same class together, along with others who signed up for a category and didn't end up in it.
Anyways, there were 10 of us in this one Beginner Novice Class. Beginner Novice B.
Dressage - dressage was aweful. *smacks forehead* We scored a 41.0, an all time low for us. We ended up 9th after dressage. OMFG! Lots to work on from now to our next event.
Then came CC. I made a big boo boo, which now I know not to do again...BUT after our 5th fence, we were ahead of time...so I pulled back, which made us loose time..so we ended up with 14 time penalties for CC because we came in a tad bit overtime.
Here is the 1st 1/2 of our CC. The recording was stopped after fence 5 beacuse we went into the forrested area.
And then 2nd 1/2 of our CC phase, just as we came out of the forrested area. Don't watch the horse that is closer to your eye sight, because that's not us. That is the horse/rider team who rode after us....look waaaay back, past fence 5, and you'll find Nelson and I...
So we were 7th after CC...another alltime low for us....:shock:
And then Stadium. We did great on our stadium, and man Nelson was jumping powerful! We went from 7th and placed 2nd overall.
Wooo! Nice comeback!
Thanks HowClever!
Nice job! Nice T-seat! Stupid question. In stadium, does whoever does the course the quickest place 1st in that phase, or is it more like an optimum time?
Thanks MyBoyPuck - haha - I worked xtra hard on that T-Seat!!! ROFL!
Not a stupid question. There is an optimum time for stadium, so you will incure time penalities if you ride your course too slow. It is about how well you do in all 3 phases.
Does that make sense? I'm tired, so I am not sure if I am helping at all.
Great job! :) I love Nelson so much, btw. Absolutely adorable in stadium- I think he was a tad excited, don't you? ;)
Thank you horseluver! I love Nelson alot too, he's one phenominal horse! He sure was super strong in Stadium for sure! He was also super strong during CC too...whew.
He LOVES to jump, you can definately see it!
Great job! Nelson looks fant-abulous!
And MyBoyPuck, MIE's right - the only way you can hurt your score in stadium is going over the maximum time and/or dropping rails. As long as everything is in it's cups and you're within the time, you can only stay the same or move up in the placings (due to other people's faults) :)
Great job! Nelson looks fant-abulous!
Thank you so much My Beau! Not bad for a 21 year old Man eh?!?! Especially for a 21 year old man who has issues with his hind right hock since his injury in Janurary!
I am SUPER proud of him <3<3<3
Okay....
I know I already said this before but you two ROCK!
Way to go sissssta!
Nelson looks absolutley amazing!
You know...you just go out and have a good time and do your darn best.
WOOT! Thanks so much Mrs. Sexy Knickers!! You know, I wasn't nervous what-so-ever. I had a great time this past weekend, it was a blast all round!
Nelson did his job, and he did it well!
I'll be te first to admit that I don't know squat about your dicipline, but I do see a horse that is enjoying his job and a happy rider. Doesn't get much better! So nice to see people actually enjoying themselves at a competition!
Congrats.
Congratulations! What an awesome day for an awesome team!
But I just have to know...how did your Coach do? I know it's not about that but I am sooooo curious! heheheheheheheh
Thank you Jake and Dai! I greatly appreciate your kind words :) :)
My Coach did very also, especially on her young and green TB mare. They placed 4th. They were 3rd after dressage, where I was 9th. Then they bumped down after CC because they were too slow, but for her she was working on her mares education, and the course had a couple of fences where BN riders had to walk around to get to our next fence on course - so she didn't want her mare to think that she got away with not jumping the fences, so she had to work out a way to have her mare walk quietly around those fences, and know that it was her riders idea to not jump them, not hers...so that's why they bumped down drastically after CC. I went up from 9th to 7th after CC because we were a couple of seconds too slow.
Then they rode clear and beautifully for stadium and bumped back up to 4th. And Nelson and I bumped up to 2nd.
I'll be te first to admit that I don't know squat about your dicipline, but I do see a horse that is enjoying his job and a happy rider. Doesn't get much better! So nice to see people actually enjoying themselves at a competition!
Congrats.
Ktibb - thank you so much, that means alot to me. It touches my heart to know that you can see the joy in Nelson! He's been through alot since Janurary, where he incurred a horrible hind right leg injury and then a massive colic where I almost lost him.
He has arthritus in his hind right hock now, but we're doing treatments to help him be more comfortable and happy - which apparently show :) :) We were supposed to move up to Novice, but my Vet said to stick to BN for now. I am totally fine with that, because I am enjoying the time we have together, doing what we love, together :) :)
YEAH NELSON! and kim... JK you know that I love you both as a team! But mean mommy woke poor lil Nelson up from his nice nap in the start box! How dare you!
What I've learned from being on an ex-prelim horse is that you ride the pace until about a minute before you're done then you check and see where you should be. Then I pull up or speed up because then I know it won't effect me greatly. But I also don't mind going fast because I'm bumping up to novice soon. :) Minute markers are my BFFL's. Seriously. Then, I always know where I'm suposed to be.
He was LIT UP on the stadium! WAnna transfer some of that to Geof at our next one day? lol poor baby is so out of shape!
Thank Stormy! And ah..dont' forget, Nelson went Prelim too missy! PHPTHTHPHTP.
You know, I usually never ride my watch. I should never of brought him down to a walk, we should of just slowed down our canter, or brought him to a trot. I should of just rode our pace and ignored the didgits. My stupid fault, wont do it again - ever.
Nelson definately LOVES to jump eh!
Cross country looks like so much fun ! You guys looked great in everything . After seeing your video I really want to try XC !
Thank you so much AfterParty! Very kind of you :) Eventing is a blast! You most definately have to give it a shot! Come on...you know you want to come to the dark side! :P
I will try it at some point , my mare is still young but once shes old enough to try . I soo will and I cant wait till that day . I love that people who do XC call it "The dark side "jeeze it makes me feel dangerous haha I LOOVE IT !!!!
Stormy, be careful if you pull up late on course and just start walking, or something - you can be penalized for an intentional delay. I almost got busted at Difficult Run PC Horse Trial for that once, but got a warning instead... I didn't know that it was a rule 'til the TD called me over and told me. Ooops.
PS- MIE, your helmet looks fab!!!
Very nicely done! Good job!!
I have seen far worse dressage tests, believe me. His canter departs hurt you....but nothing training can't cure. One thing that will instantly improve scores....accuracy. Every time you get an inaccurate transition hurts big time.
What a great comeback. I love it!
Thanks Allison! I appreciate your words of wisdom :)
What killed us was the lack of impulsion. He was behind my leg alot and behind the verticle. The Judge commented on mostly that throughout the whole test paper.
"Lacking impulsion"
"Behind your leg"
"Behind the verticle"
We got alot of 6's! One 7, and a few 5's.
Where the last HT we did in May, we got alot of 7's, a few 6's and ione 8. NO 5's. lol.
Meh - oh well, different Judge. Now I know what we need to work on :) My hand set wasn't helping either, quite low when I should of had them higher.
My test consisted of
7
6
6
5
6
6
5
6x2
6
5
6
6
6
5
6
-
7
We were 9th after dressage, out of 10. Aweful! I don't want that to happen again. lol. I know I am being hard on myself, but I know I could of done much better.
Oh well! The next HT we are doing isn't until August, so we have plenty of time to work on it!
LOL, because it is! It is one of the most dangerous equestrian sports out there, you will have to purchase a Medical Armband and wear it - but you will learn all this stuff when you start venturing into the sport when your darling is ready to rock n roll.
Find a Quallified and Educated, Experienced Eventing Coach when you do decide to merge to the "Dark Side" muwwaaa ha ha ha ha. lol.
What I suggest you do right now, is expose your baby as much as you can to surroundings, trails, hacking, new places to get her well rounded mentally, so that when she does start eventing, she'll be a bold mare where nothing will scare her. Also, start working on your Dressage as soon as possible, because Dressage is the most competative phase in the sport now.
I was lucky to of climbed the ladder from almost dead last at this HT, but that doesn't always happen! You want to be at least top 5 after Dressage, so get ahead of the game when you can.
Once you do start, you'll be hooked :) And then.....you'll be one of us! AH HA HA HA HAHAHA! :P
random question- do u have to have a show coat for BN? cuz i want to start eventing soon and dont have one right now and slightly on a budget trying to save for my wedding... what all is required to show BN?
#27 ·
Everything. You could get in trouble for not hving one acctually. You're expected to ride in nice breeches (white looks best) a show shirt and stock tie, a black or dark coat, tall boots(since your getting married I'm guessing your not under 13 :)) your hair in a net and your helmet *should* be black but as long as it isn't bright pink I think your good. :) also black gloves unless your hands don't move an inch when riding then white is aceptable. then on XC you should wear a polo and your vest.
