New US Coach for 2012+

So, I don't know who all is super up to date on current US Eventing news, so I'm going to give a brief overview. Basically, Mark Phillips (bless him) is retiring from his US Chef d'Equipe (coach) position after the 2012 Olympics. Currently the deadline to apply to be the new US coach/technical advisor (it's two positions, really, but one person can hold both spots) in January 31st and there's a list of current applicants. They are:

Bettina and Andrew Hoy
David O'Connor
Jimmy Wofford
Phillip Dutton and Bobby Costello

So, who would you like to see coaching the US Team and WHY?! I really want to know the WHY of your answer, and (not to be rude) but I hope it's more than "Oh he's won some Olympic medals" or "I've always wanted to meet him I'd think he'd do great!" Basically, do some research on them and their achievements (as both coaches and riders) and then type away!

I feel like a lot of people just kind of choose blindly based on the person's name and not on their actual qualifications, so this is an educational experience for all of you! Ready? Set? Go!

NOTE: I'm not going to post my personal opinions yet, but don't worry I will!

NOTE #2: The new coach will be chosen by a committee that looks at each applicant's (s') resume(s) that contains information about both riding and coaching achievements. They also look at possible conflicts that the applicants might have, etc.

I believe all of the nominees for the new chef d'equipe are terrific. But the best of all would be either David O'Connor or Jim Wofford. David has just proven he can take a team from a country that was barely on the eventing map and help them to achieve the silver at the WEG. He also understands how to take young eventers and get them to reach their potential on a world stage. I think this is critical for the USA right now. Our team is getting very old with no young people advanced enough to take their places very soon. I believe David would fix this immediately and have success. I also believe Jim Wofford is an excellent coach! He is a wonderful communicator and knows more about eventing than most. I wish he was 15 yrs younger though. Otherwise, he would get my vote. But David would be the best choice in my book. By the way, I have taken clinics with all of the nominees except the Hoy's! Although I do not know Bobby Costello, I do NOT feel Phillip Dutton is a good enough communicator and politician for this role. I have seen him give clinics and was very disappointed. He asked no one's name, referred to people by the color of their horse and didn't take the time to inquire as to what goals each individual might like to achieve. I realize this was not the united states eventing team he was coaching but he was getting paid to do a job. I say David O'Connor who I have never personally met or been coached by. I believe I have an unbiased opinion and an educated one.
