I'd try out you TB before buying a gaited horse. While they can jump, their gaits and conformation can make it difficult for them. If you end up hooked (it happens to the best of us), this is not the horse you will be able to compete on most likely. Your TB is designed for XC, take it slow and have fun. My nut of an OTTB thrived on XC. Once we leave the pack at the starting box he would settle into a nice rhythm. Schooling with others was a bit of a challenge till it clicked that they weren't there to compete, just to splash about in the water.
