US eventing rulebook question-boots

The US eventing rulebook states that for horse trials and tests Beginner Novice-Preliminary: Bootsóblack, brown, field, jodhpur or a black or brown full grain
Smooth leather leg piece and matching leather boots. Chaps and/or half-chaps
Are not allowed.

When is says "full grain smooth leather leg piece and matching leather boots" what does that mean? What is a leather leg piece? It sounds a awful lot like a leather half chap. How is it different from a half chap?

It is a leather half chap, they don't want non leather half chaps.

So basically it has to look just like a tall boot :)

But it also says chaos and half chaps are not allowed. Maybe they mean single color leather boots?

Gypsygirl: That's kinda what I thought, but since it does say no half chaps I don't see how just because it's leather it is now a "leg piece" and not a half chap.
If that is the case and it is just leather half chaps does it matter where the zipper is (back or side)?

DancingArabian: I don't think so because it says a leg piece and matching boots. Two separate items. A single colored boot would just be one.

Did anybody come up with an answer for this? I have had tall boots given to me, but I much prefer to do things in half chaps (more comfortable). So if you have leather half chaps, the same color leather as your boot, is that OK?
