XC clinic pictures!

So I had the opportunity yesterday to ride in an XC clinic given by Mike Gallagher, president of Equine Canada. I was on a borrowed horse who I'd only ridden once before (on Friday, so 2 days before the clinic), and I hadn't known I was doing the clinic until Friday LOL.

Considering that for the past year, my main focus has been dressage with the occasional jumping lesson, I feel I did pretty well. I was on a strange horse, and have been very used to riding only my own for a while now. Diego, the horse I rode, is a 10 year old appendix. He spent the summer doing pre-training events and loves XC so is VERY forward.

We started with a warm up over fences in the ring.

Then we moved out into the field :)

All in all it was a fun and very informative day :). It was a nice change up from all the dressage, although I'm realizing I really don't have the guts to be a full time eventer.

It looks like you had a lot of fun! And from what I can see you look very good especially considering all the circumstances! I love the horse you're riding, btw, and I've definitely been in a similar situation lol. A few years ago I had signed up for a clinic with my horse and he came up lame two days before, so a friend of mine who wasn't riding her horse at the time let me ride him. He hadn't been jumpd in 2 years, was nervy (in the sense that he had very low confidence over fences), and the day of the clinic was the first day I rode him in the outdoor arena, but boy could he jump! The clinician I rode with was really impressed with him, and my trainer, who was in the center of the arena watching, even made the comment at one point, "Oh wow I didn't know he could jump that high..." The jumps were set at about 2'9", but he cleared one of them that he thought was scary at about 4'6" haha. Definitely a great learning experience!
