Just to clear things up a bit a "show hack" can be any height, even ponies and any breed as long as they compete in "hacking"
A "hack" is also used to describe height, pony-galloway-hack, also not restricted by breed.

In the UK it is completly different. THe Show hack is between 148cm's and 160cm's is fine boned and elegant. They are a perticular type.
Hacks

If the horse has more bone than a hack or is over height then it becomes a riding horse.
Riding Horses
If the horse has more bone and substand then a riding horse it becomes a hunter.

Non of the above can be ponies and nothing to do with whether it hacks out or not. A horse is one type, it cannot be both a hack and a riding horse and it certainly can't be both a hack and a hunter

RIDE your horse FORWARDS and keep him STRAIGHT

I know that. I mean in Australia. Our terms of hack seem more generalised

Pony
Large pony
Galloway
Hack

A hack is over 15hh. A 14.2hh pony is not a hack, it is a galloway. It may be different where you are Faye but that is what it is over here. As Faye said, a hack is fine boned and elegant. A hunter has much more bone and has big movement. Me and Tess compete in hacking but she is not a hack, she is a large pony. A hack is most likely a thoroughbred type.

Ok everyone chill...A hack is a nickname/term for a horse 15hh+ wether its Thoroughbred, warmblood or Australian stock horse for all i care. Its just a name. Just putting it out there TB's can still be a hunter hack. In Australian Showing (also known as Hacking) the classes are divided by heights in following order (also ranges from shows but this is an outline):

Small Pony- 11hh ne 12.2
Large Pony 12.3 ne 13.3
Small galloway 14hh ne 14.2
Large Galloway 14.2 ne 14.3
Small Hack (also known as Childs Hack) 15hh ne 15.2
Ladies Hack 15.3 ne 16.2
Large Hack 16.2+

Then theres Hunters which are usually more broad with heights...Just my to bits..

The Perfect Day-
Going to bed with a Dream
and waking up with a Purpose!

I did try to explain but you know how bad I am with explaining, I do know what I meant. I am not completely hopeless
