I know Man O' War was one of the best horses of all time
His strides were long
He had a firey temeperment like his sire Fair Play and Grand Sire Hastings

Man O' War: The Greatest Thoroughbred Racehorse

Argueably the best racehorse ever to set foot on a track, Man O'War broke many records, defeated many high-class horses, and entertained thousands in the process.

Man O' War was the greatest race horse of all time. A great performer on the track -- 20 wins in 21 races, and equally good as a sire. Sire of over 60 Stakes winners, a Triple Crown Winner (War Admiral) and other champions. They used to ring a large bell at Faraway Farm (where he stood) every time one of his progeny won a race.

Some people are proud and haughty because they ride a fine horse, or have a feather in their hat, or are very well dressed. This is obviously folly for if there is any glory here, it belongs to the horse, or the bird or the tailor. --- St. Francis de Sales (1567-1622)

At three years old Man o' War was 16 hands 2 inches high and weighed about 1,150 pounds with a 72-inch girth, a true giant in his day. Man O' War also won the Lawrence Realization Stakes by 100 lengths beating one other horse, a horse named Hoodwinked. Let us not forget his grandson Seabiscuit, who was an underdog but beat Man O War's greatest son War Admiral.

I read a couple books on him and he was my all time favorite race horse. I thought it was a really neat read. One of the reasons he only ran 21 races was because he carried a good 30 lbs more than the other horses which was rediculous. The only reason he lost the one race to Upset was because he stumbled at the gate and I believe he beat upset 3 other times at least.

My horse has Man O War way back in his pedigree... I think it's kind of neat... Although, he's a western pleasure horse!

Thank you. I just recently came across those so I had to share them when I saw the post. I wish more people embalmed famous horses like that. What a piece of history!
