In actual fact, they did find the cause of PharLap's death.

An Australian scientist who worked in conjunction with a museum expert managed to purchase a particle accelerator from the US. Using this device and a small sample of PharLap's mane from PharLap's museum exhibition, it was concluded he was induced with a large dose of arsenic around 35 hours before his death.

It is believed the work was carried out by American gansters, as they feared their illegal bookmarkers would lose.

He was an amazing race horse... I cry everytime I watch the movie, because its so sad!!

A former friend of mine in Aus sent me a special edition DVD of the movie - which I can't get here in Ireland at all! I love the movie and cried like a baby at it

I used to call my horse Phar Lap before I bought him and found out what his name actually is! He reminds me a lot of the horse that plays Phar Lap in the film (who was called Towering Inferno IIRC)

Weeellll...I don't know, there are ALOT of amazing racehorses that have lived...Phar Lap was certainly one of the greats, but there is no arguing horses who have perfect records. Of course, he won at all kinds of distances, and did for his country like Seabiscuit did for ours in his time.
