Just watched it.

I'm dissappointed....I thought Zardana could do better than just winning by a neck. That was too close...Oh well, maybe she was just havinga bad day, and RA is still on helluva horse to handle ^^

Have you noticed that we're getting a lot of great fillies recently? Zenyatta, Rachel Alexandra, Eight Belles (May she Rest In Peace), Zardana....I'm waiting for the next Ruffian. :)

I think Zenyatta is as close as we may come...unbeaten in 16 starts, and never really ever been faced-she always make winning look so easy! Different running style, but you Can't argue with that kind of record.

Yes, Zenyatta sure is amazing......Ten lengths of the leader, and covering it in less than no time. First filly to win the Breeders Cup.

Still, I wouldn't go so far as to say she's the closest we'll ever come. There's lots of fillies up and coming now....Maybe one of them will be something special.

I cried when I watched that movie to I own it and iv only watched it the one time because of it.
It truely scares me to.
I do Barrels/cutting and reining with my horse and I worry about that happening.

Anytime My horse trips I stop him in place and check him out.

At a barrel race he tripped around the third barrel, as soon as he picked himself up I stopped him, jumped off and walked him out, pissed alot of people off because I walked out and they wanted to keep the race going and blew my 45$ entry fee but I didnt care.

There were signs that Ruffian was having soundness issues and they should have paid more attention to them.

I grain my horse everyday with joint supplements and plenty of other vitamins.

During competition his legs are always wrapped up and I stretch out each leg before we do anything.

It is sad darl but it really is just life. It's well known that only a horse can have so many bad things happen to it, accidents, diseases... It's perfectly normal to be upset by a movie but that's all it is, a movie. Many horses have died through injuried and that movie is just a re-make of what happened a long time ago. It's not something you should put your heart out about. It's cruel but you need to grow a second skin, don't allow little things like this get to you. It's not healthy. If it was your horse then you have every right. But the movie was all fake, just like the rest. Just remember that the horse in the movie didn't really go through that. It's just a story, same as the little horror stories you hear when you're a child. Grow up hunni, don't let it affect you self confidence or the way you work with your horses. Live for the moment, not the past.

I read a super article online about Ruffian's having come from too much inbreeding, causing fragile bone! It really made sense. The older champions, like Secretariat, had substantial bone.

Interesting, Northern. That probably do have something to do with it, I'll bet. If the bones are fit....neither is the horse =/

Yearling
Just saw Ruffian for the first time- cried, but no all out bawling. It was sad, and a shame, because it shows what we (as riders&humans) can do to such beautiful creatures. You hope and pray it never happens again, but look at Barbaro- look at Eight Belles. It stuns us and shocks us whenever it happens, when, in reality, we should expect it. We've stolen far too much from these animals.

Sorry for the rant, not directed at anyone. Just became frustrated after finishing the movie.

Green Broke
Ruffian is one of my favorite racehorses of all time (right behind Man O' War!) What I found really eerie about her story was how both her sire & dam died within 2 years of her, in the same way - both woke up dissoriented after surgery, thrashing around until they broke their legs & were put to sleep. Weird!
