Mine, personally, is the great Man O' War
Born in 1917, within 3 short years he became known as one of the greatest (voted greatest racehorse of the 20th century by the Bloodhorse) racehorses of all time.
Sired by Fair Play (son of Hastings, who was considered one of the most ill-tempered thoroughbreds) and out of the Rocksand mare Mahuba, he was sold to Sam Riddle as a yearling, who once considered making him into a hunt horse if he didnt do well on the track lol.
All in all, he raced 21 times, winning 20. He came in 2nd only once to a horse named Upset (who he beat on 6 other occasions). He broke 8 records, winning one race by an estiamted 100 lengths & then beating Triple Crown-winner Sir Barton in his final match race, which took place in Canada!
He was retired after his 3-year-old season because Riddle feared the handicappers would place far greater weights on him & he was already carrying more than most 4-year-olds. He sired 64 stakes champions including War Admiral & Hard Tack (sire of Seabiscuit). Man O' War died at the ripe old age of 30. Millions of people visited him at his stable preceding his death & is now buried at the Kentucky Horse Park beneath his lifesized statue. His groom, Will Harbut always called him "Da Mostest Hoss".
