All the girls are lovely but these two really illustrate the beauty and diversity of chickens. Say what you want to about the Ameraucana/EE (I don't know what I'm supposed to call them) but everyone is unique and the flock will never be boring. The Maran is not just a black chicken but the purple and teal sheen to her feathers make her a standout.

Mature Lakenvelder hens will be the smaller 4# varieties. I thought my one Lakenvelder chick was dead this morning. She was face down in the brooder a mile away from the rest of them. Fresh feed got her stirring.

This is a bad time of year... everyone is selling cute, fuzzy chicks! I was trying to convince the hubby that I NEED some Black Jersey Giants but the neighbor's chicken killed made an appearance right in the midst of that.

/sigh.... I really hate that dog.
