My Easter Eggers (that were sold to me as Americanas) are laying pretty well. The eggs are not large, but not tiny. I would say they are medium sized. The only thing is the color. Some of them are pale blue. Some are green. But not the color of green that one would dye an Easter egg. More the color that you would think an egg would turn if you let it sit out for a year and it rotted. A nice vomit green I would say....... The birds are beautiful though.

I haven't gotten blue yet... just green and an off-white. I have 4 babies though that are currently living with my bantams, hoping one of them will lay blue!

I get a pretty pastelly green usually but sometimes it's a darker uglier green (all from the same chicken). My hen is completely white and the dolt who sold her to me not only claimed she was an Americauna, she also swore that pure white ones lay pink eggs. Yeah right!!

He's hilarious... one very PROUD lil banty roo! He has all the standard hens whipped into shape. He insisted on moving into the "big chicken coop" and gets mortified if they wander too far away from him (they free-range) and then you see his lil banty butt scurrying to go round up the errant hen. He lets my other 2 banty roosters have the baby hens.

Whoa, those hens have fierce eyes! I love their colors.

Thanks for all of the breed advice, everybody. It's very helpful, as always. I guess I still have a lot to think about but I have a few months until chick season anyway. I just love that there are so many varieties of chickens to choose from. I can probably find a good compromise. Looking at hatchery websites is like playing in a candy store.

I am here to learn! :)

I have never had any banties, but I did have regular BPRs before. Very dependable layers with even and mellow personalities.

Uh, that "expression" of color is called Olive Green.

Ameracaunas are not "true" or purebreds. They are derived from Aracuanas as are Easter Eggers. While EE are considered more "mutt" than Ameracaunas, no offense to EE, Ameracaunas aren't as type set as the original Aracaunas so they can look quite different from one another and some do not have beards, or face muffs. They come in many many colors and many color varieties.
Your birds like like Ameracaunas or EE. Many people use Ameracauna and EE interchangably.

ok, thanks! They just looked very different from my other Amercauna but that makes sense now! I never knew it was a mixed breed.

Bloody eggs?

My pure white Easter Egger molted and just started laying again but all the egg shells have blood smeared on the outside. She's acting and looking normal (won't let me within 2 feet of her like usual). We had one blood-free egg, so I thought she was ok but this morning it was back to a bloody egg. Egg is perfectly normal once you wash it off.
