Here are some photo's of the flock uploaded to Flickr!
Poultry - a set on Flickr

The little one with the orange head and golden laced white body might be going to a friend soon... She's kinda evil and there's no use for her here :)

I wish I could upload pics from my phone! My babies are a month old now, and are cute as pie. We did have two casualties though, so only have 4/6 left.

Lockwood where on earth did you get your ss's? I have contacted multiple breeders and none of them have birds that go broody. What is going on here!
Put up an ad in BYC too, no replies. Also looking for Black or Golden Laced Wyandotte's, no luck. Seems like everyone is breeding out broodiness, like that's a BAD THING! I hate incubators.

Getting ready to hit "confirm order" on a hatchery site, HOLD ME BACK!!!!

Here are my new 8 chicks.. I'll have to get pictures of the other 11 hens soon.

Also, any idea if the biggest one is a golden sex-link? It was supposed to be a pullet, but I'm not really too sure. Lol.

Several places. I’ve ordered from 2 different hatcheries and there is a big auction place not too far from me that has a bird auction on Fridays. Every type of farm fowl goes through there. Sometimes the prices are as much as a hatchery, sometimes more common chicks like Barred Rocks or RIR go for $0.25 each! (And no S&H)
But…. The breeding isn’t always “pure” so it is buyer beware.

In the past our local Tractor Supply did a big chick order and you have a list to choose from, breed wise, but now they get in a variety of everything as the chicks always get bought.
The local mom and pop feed stores do this and the grain mills too, but as a huge order from hatcheries.

A friend and I are ordering meat birds from the same placs as last year (mom and pop feed store) and they usually order in about 1000 chicks at a time. Because it is such a large order, the hatchery delivers via a special van (Only 2 hours away) so the chicks don’t have to be shipped.

Don’t know if that helped, and too bad you are not closer. I’m going to thin the flock a little and will be selling some SS.
My Silver Wyandottes are alo great brooders.

Hope you did indeed hit “confirm order” (what did you get and from which one? I like Meyer Hatchery out of OH. They are terrific and I can drive over and pick up my chicks in person if I want to.)

OMG Delfina!!
Bwaahhaaaahaha....What a riot!
I have three whit ones.... thanks for the great idea for next year. My son will flip!

I've never hatched chicks, always ordered them or bought at auctions :)

I've gotten some from the fair which orders from McMurray and then a friend will also add me onto their Meyer order occasionally. The feed store also sells them once a year, don't know where they're from. I've also bought chickens at shows and even won two in a raffle!

The bad news is if it is a sex link, it's probably a roo. If it were a pullet, it would be darker. It really could be anything if you don't know. There are a bunch of breeds that look like that until they are about 1 week. Any other distinguishing feathering?

I think that 3 of them are about a week old, and the other 5 are probably about 3-4 days old. It was for sure supposed to be a golden sex link. The only chicks where I got the sex link from were barred rocks, black australorps and the golden sex link. Haha. If it's a rooster, well we'll see how he turns out :P

My mother in law said if I clean up the basement I can build a coop and get chickens in the backyard.

It's on! I also need to call the town and check on our local regulations-- but I'm excited.
