Order them. Find someone who's selling them. Talk to your local feed store. Look on Craigslist.

I did it! I got chickens! I'm building their coop over the next few weeks. I wasn't going to buy any until I finished the coop and run but I went into TSC and I couldn't resist when I saw the Bantam Silkie. I know I'll need TWO coops now for bantam and regulars.

I've been reading that they can be bullied. Maybe I'll build the backup coop just in case but watch for behavior. I'm also scared of getting Roos. The bantems are straight run :-/ however they are only two of the four I bought.

I don't keep roos. I find homes for any that I end up with. My bantum is a silkie cochin cross and she has moxy. The hens respect her place in the pecking order and she is near the top.

I have heard that there are nice roos out there, but so far I'm 2 for 2 for roos that think flogging ankles is a good idea. The first roo was gorgeous and I really didn't want to get rid of him, so He got to the point where he drew blood and I was always looking over my shoulder when I went outside. This 2nd one that I just got rid of, only flogged my ankles twice and he was down the road. I'm not sure he even knew WHY he was going at my ankles but, put beak, spurs and toenails on the critter and have him go at ya, not fun so he went down the road too. I've decided to save myself the heartache in the future, if I get any more roos in a shipment, as soon as they're obviously roos, it's dinner time.

Your ladies won't miss him either!! I hate seeing hens all torn up from Roo attention. I can buy chicks pretty cheaply, so I don't need fertile eggs. Heck, I like the "no-guilt" knowing the eggs are infertile, anyway.

LOL! Yeah, I think that I'm the one who misses the roo! The girls haven't even looked twice for him, I'm the one who's missing his song and all the pretty feathers and such. Really, they are pretty useless if you don't want fertile eggs, and I don't care about that.

I have a bantam silkie, a bantam polish, a bantam polish rooster, a bantam mille fleur de'uccle (or however you spell it!!), some white puffbally bantam rooster and a bantam frizzle rooster all living with 11 standard hens and there is no bullying whatsoever other than the occasional catfight between roosters.

I have 2 coops but the bantams refused to use theirs and I got tired of putting them back in their own coop every night.
