I emptied one, even though it is a VERY dangerous thing to do. I just hope she didn't aspirate anything. But, no to any "cillin" based antibiotics! This is a yeast infection and the last thing you want to do is wipe out the beneficial bacteria in their gut. Yeast is a fungal problem, not bacteria.

I am trying a treatment I found on backyard chickens that gives pieces of a monistat insert. People have had good results as this is a specifically yeast targeting fungus treatment. I'll post results. I hope I didn't wait too long, though.

I am currently battling a problem of my own making. My hens love grass and I took some scissors and cut a whole bunch of grass and gave it to them. The pieces were long, but they seemed to handle it well.

Well, three of my hens now have sour crop and I am fighting to save them. They are in bad shape and I may lose two of my favorite hens. So, DON'T do what I did. If you want your hens to have grass, let them pluck it themselves.

Needa give em apple cider vinegar.

They're getting that along with live culture yougurt.

Sadly, Rocky died this morning and Phyllis isn't looking too good. She won't eat or drink, even though I am trying to get fluids down her.

I have met some mean tipsters in my time. A place where I boarded many years ago had two pretty mean ones. I parked by the horse trailer, and always had a stick laying on the hitch. When I got out, I always grabbed my stick. They would sneak attack me while I was giving baths or cleaning stalls. I can't say I was sad when they died of unknown causes. When I was a kid, my uncle had a mean rooster as well. It was his fault though. Him and my dad would chase it around and catch it and hold it by its legs. Poor rooster. I doubt I will ever own a roo.

On a different note. My three remaining red girls are getting so big. Now if only I could figure out what breed they are!

Well I am down to two now, well three counting my cornish. I fed this afternoon and found another one of my red girls dead. I must ne a horrible chicken mom. I only have one left out of last year's batch, and now just 2 out of 6 this year. I will never have fresh eggs at this rate, considering my Cornish hen refuses to lay, and I am slowly killing my reds. Meh

We lost our black Australorp last night. She's the one that the neighbors dog shredded and I stitched back together with fishing line.

I did my best, gave her antibiotic shots, hand-fed her and let her live in my house where she was warm and happy but she never ate well and was losing weight like you wouldn't believe. She was soooo happy though, she stole 3 baby chicks I had in a brooder, moved them into her enclosure with her and loved on them constantly. The chicks seem pretty freaked that they lost their "mother"... they won't go back in the enclosure other than to eat/drink when I am not around and won't let me get anywhere near them to catch them.

I'm so sorry you lost your Australorp.

When I've had freaky chicks, I wait til night and let them get real sleepy/dozy and I go in and sit down with them. I put them on my legs and in my lap and cuddle them while they're sleepy and do it several nights running. After that they seem to settle quite a bit.
