I have waddled off the deep end of the coop...

Just clicked confirm, ordered 10 New Hampshire Red and 5 Black Australorp hens.

That will bring me up to 36 chickens! I need help... help?

She is, the little one sits peeking out from her neck feathers and then rushes out every now and then

Speaking of cute chicks...mine have now learned that the coop is home- Yay!

However, they don't seem to be using a roost in the coop- as you can see, they prefer to lay together on the floor. I do see them using the coop roost and my outdoor roost during the day though. At what age do they start roosting overnight?

Egrogan, as I recall mine started to use a roost at about three months of age. They were on the floor at lights out all the time and then - poof - one night they're sitting on a roost like they've always been doing it.

Question. Should a chick's crop always be full? I check on Willow at the same time every day and her crop is always full. I guess she just eats a lot? She has grit available and I let her and Foxy free range in the dirt for about 1- 1 1/2 hours a day. I've never had to deal with this with my turkeys so I'm kinda lost haha! As a note, I always check in the evenings. Someone said their crop would be empty in the morning and full at night? I'm not sure.

It will be (in my experience with mine anyhow) full in the evenings. They eat a bunch just before bedtime and it gives them energy through the night. Mine eat more in winter than summer, somone told me it also helps keep them warm to be digesting through the night.
