DA that was hilarious!

Chickies on their way!
I worked late last night and hit my phone when the PO called this morning, at 6 am! They called again at 9 and DH had already left for work, in my car!
So the chickies are getting a tour of the county back roads with my mailman... Say a little prayer for my babies. They are going to be here (probably beat to death) at noon!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you that they make it home safe! If it's as hot where you are as it is for me, I would be a nervous wreck thinking about them being in the truck.

It's so hot here today, I'm keeping my eyes on the babies, pumping them full of watermelon and grapes (which they love). Big girls are currently involved in some chicken Olympics running all over every shelf and piece of equipment in my garage, where it seems to be a little cooler than outside in the sun. I wish they would just dig themselves into their dirt bath and sit down for a few minutes- all that running around is making me hotter just watching them.

They got here before noon, one total rigor mortis, another is acting wayyyy off. Got some electrolytes in him but it isn't looking good, no motor skills whatsoever. It's like something ain't quite connected right.

The rest were fine. This mail guy drives a super nice Mariner, and took good care of them...

Oh well, the farm has a 100% guarantee. I'll post photos soon!

Sadness.

I went into the pullet coop and found my last two purebred ameracauna pullets dead. A raccoon evidently got into my fort knox coop. A friend and I found a possible spot where it might have gotten in and plugged it. I trapped and killed two large male raccoons and the last two nights the traps have been empty. I don't believe I have gotten them all, but will keep trying.

SO, I have lost my French Black Copper Moran pullet....no dark brown eggs

And I lost my purebred Ameracauna pullets.....so no GOOD blue eggs. I'll just have the aqua egg from one of my easter eggers. I have had no luck with my chick/future layers. Two have died of unknown causes, two from raccoons, three are likely roos. Out of ten chicks I have raised, I will have just light brown layers.

So much for adding to my color pallet.

So sorry Allison! How do you think the raccoon made it in?

Allison, that is sad. I hope that you have better luck next time. You need a good coon hound that is likes chickens and won't hurt them. Mine keeps all the raccoons out of the area. She is a little bit afraid of chickens, but she is fearless when it comes to raccoons.

I did find a place where it might have squeezed in. Not anymore. On a good note, I trapped two raccoons and a friend took them home and dispatched them. She cooked one up as BBQ and brought me some (poetic justice, I guess). I have to tell you it was very good! Who would have thought......
