She was the only one left .. otherwise I would have gotten 2. So 12 babies all together! In the spring I plan to add to my mixed flock :) Maybe some Laced Polish? And Silkies.

    Awww, cute!!!

My Orp and Cochin pullets are starting to look like little hens instead of babies now. I can't wait for them to start laying.

I thought I posted this the other day, but I guess not. My Americaunas are finally laying, so I finally have cute little blue-green eggs. But nothing from the Speckled Sussex or Brahmas yet.

I love my little barred rocks. The white spots on their heads made me think of Friar Tuck. I can't wait for them to all grow up, I'm curious on what my Ameraucanas will look like since all of them seem to be different colors. :)

I just picked up a lavender Ameraucana roo and two blue splash orpington pullets yesterday! I'll have to post pics later. They are adorable!

Here is Mr. Roo, dust bathing with the little girls. He's a skittish little guy, but is already protective over the chicks.

Foxxy(Silkie) and Willow(EE) enjoying their dust bath together. These girls are inseparable!

Pullet #1, my blue splash Orpington. Around 15-16 weeks old. She is a chatty Cathy! Her bawking sounds like a maniacal laugh. Cracks me up!

Pullet #2. This was the best I could get of her. She's a bit bigger than #1 and is a lot quieter, though they look very similar.

Do I have a roo on my hands?

Alright chicken experts, I'm here with the dreaded question: is one of my girls a boy!?

I am having a ton of trouble finding pictures of pullets and roosters at the age of my girls (about 5 months), but this one's tail is just coming in...different. It seems to be curved and sparser than the others. Here are a few angles, sorry for the shadows, this little girl/guy would NOT cooperate with the camera and hold still:

No one is laying yet, I don't hear any crowing attempts, no one has fully formed combs or wattles, no sign of any spurs, so I just don't know what to think. I probably won't really know until I start seeing them lay, but just curious if you all look at this pictures and tell me it's clearly a boy.

And just because it's a glorious day out, I thought I'd share one of my sunbathing beauties:

I can't tell from your pics but here's a way to check. Look at the hackle feathers, if a roo he'll have more pointy feathers, the girls are more rounded. BUT..... looking at the color, I'm going to say pullet.

Thanks, DA. I have checked and I do see rounded vs. pointy. I've just been nervous because the tail is looking so different and has that curve to it. But you're giving me hope!

I had a friend give me her Buff Orp roo. They can't have roos in the suburbs, and when you buy straight runs you sometimes get roos.

It's hard to tell when they're young, because they all pretty much look alike. She said they knew something was up when he started trying to crow!

They had originally named him Buffy. I renamed him Buford.
