Oh tragedy! That's happened to me before and it is devastating. My condolences.

Thanks everybody. I really knew that if I turned him out he could be in danger. We really live out in a wild area. He couldn't get along with the other chickens and he hated being penned by himself. At least he got about a year of having fun and living free. He was cute because he followed me around the yard. I like to think it was love, but I think it has more to do with him wanting handouts. I think he lived as long as he did because he did a good job of roosting up high. This happened in broad daylight.

Celeste - be on the watch for the return of the fox as he will likely come back to try his luck again.

I have them all in what should be a safe place right now. Thanks for mentioning it. I hope he can't dig into the chicken coop.

not his fault he is hungry.

I rehomed a dog that I had that probably killed 15 of my chickens. He WASNT hungry, and didnt have the excuse of high prey drive....not even eating, just killing for fun! Much as I was tempted to Old Oak tree him, I found him a home that didnt have birds

Anyway if theres wild land nearby, why not relocate?
rocky pony likes this.

Entirely personal preference. I would not relocate it and run the risk of it returning or having a go at me while I tried to move it. Same goes for stray dogs. I have a lot of money invested in my livestock and I won't tolerate anything taking an easy meal.
texasgal and Speed Racer like this.
