What to paint post and rail fence

Hi guys looking for that soft black look on post and rail fence is it a stain ? I know there are different types you do you all suggest ?

I think you mean creosote, not sure if I spelled that correctly? It's dark, oily and protects wood from rot, I got some fence posts pretreated with it, guaranteed never to rot.
