I don't know what to do!!!
I live on 21 acres w/2 horses. My neighbors live on 50 acres with 2 cats...and 3 teenage boys but no large animals. They are very wealthy (and very stupid). (how does that work out, go figure???)
Anyway, we (as well as a number of other neighbors- mind you that where I live used to be a 3-thousand acre working farm during the civil war and was later (within the last 15 or so years) divided into 60 parcels - so this is all farm land (rolling hills, river, pastures, woods, creeks, etc). It is prime farming land...
-my neighbors know nothing about the country and/or farming or keeping animals.
-a friend of mine (who is wonderful, and a top-notch farrier) offered to come and cut hay (he is getting into the hay business in addition to shoeing)
-He offered to come and cut the fields, put herbicide down, fertilize, and maintain all of the fields.
- In return, he takes the hay and sells it for a profit... DUH.
-he asked if he could come and cut (I said abolutely but)...
-First, my neighbors asked him how much he would pay them for it (even though they have somebody now to pay to have the fields bush-hogged every few weeks????!!!
-they don't realize what a favor he is doing for all of us. !
-he was going to come and put herbicide down but she (neighbor)stopped him and said she was having a party (which she never had) and she didn't want him to come for a few more weeks just because she had people coming.
(mind you, he's doing us all a favor by taking care of our land - and when he cut last year, I have never seen the fields look so good).
-He gives me all of the hay I need for my 2 horses (which isn't that much since they have lots of pasture) and takes the rest to sell.
-Now, he is not so happy and because she (neighbor) wouldn't let him put the herbicide down and wait until now to cut, the hay isn't nearly as good (which sucks for me, him, and his customers - not to mention how ****ty the fields look because they aren't cut - which are also making the gnats and mosquitoes and flies really bad for my horses.
-My neighbors don't get it that they aren't the only people in this world .
-What can I tell them or how can I persuade or inform them that this is really beneficial to THEM. ???
I am trying to figure out a way to get it through my neighbors' thick skulls that this is a benefit to them - they are the most self-centered people I have ever met and some of the dumbest people I've ever met...
WHAT DO I DO???? Other than just going mad!!!
