My family knew him well. I remember when I was a child when we dropped off a wonderful 3 gaited horse to him. Why do you ask?

He was my riding instructor when I was 10. I found out after his passing he was world renowned. I know there's an exhibit in the American saddlebrrd museum in Mexico Missouri.. its been on my todo list to go. Was just wondering if anyone knew him and what they're story was with him.

Hi there!

Late reply...but I just joined...

I knew Marion. I worked @ his stables from 1993-1995ish. Everyday from 7-2...cleaning stalls, getting horses ready for training and lessons etc.

He and I were the only two there...ever. We can all only hope to be doing that much when we are in our 70's right? At that point he had two mares that he was training for show.. a mare and gelding he gave lessons on in the afternoon, a broodmare and a pair of matched paint geldings he was working with to pull carriages. He was amazing! A perfectionist...I remember he ALWAYS kept a bucket outside to collect rain water to use to brush the horses manes/tails because it didn't have the chlorine in it and made them softer It was a time in my life I remember fondly.

Hey there, guys.

Marion Walter Brown was my great uncle. I never knew him, but I have heard great things about him like people saying he was a great man and horse rider. And I also saw him in my family past. It's cool that all of you guys new him. I wish I could have known him because I am also interested in horses as well. It's very neat to see how some people had such a passion for horse riding and grooming like he did. Anyway it's nice to know that you guys knew him or your family's did.

Heres a link for his death:

Dad and I were talking about training the other night when we came in from the barn. I said that I believe all horses should be equitation horses. Not meaning they should all be kids horses but that they should all be obedient and well mannered. They should all be able todo patterns and do serpentines and circles and stand and back and so on.

Dad replied with a Marion Brown quote. He believed that you should start all colts like they were going to be intended for a child. That way, no matter what he wound up doing, be it equitation or your Saturday night Stake horse, he is broke. And how can you argue with that logic?

Don't know if you've been to the saddlebred museum since you posted this, but here's Marion's photo on the wall there.
