Hello,

I just got a black, 15hh Tenessee walking horse mare for Christmas, and I'm not very knowledgable about the breed, let alone it's gaits.

My father grew up raising Tenessee walkers, so, he knows a lot about them, and horses in general. My dad and his father showed them, and had some great studs.

Anyways, I was wondering if you all would mind helping me out getting to know about the breed and their gaits. I have ridden walkers before, however, I never really understood their odd fair (in use to trotters: tbs, quarters).

The main question I have is about their gait. I'm unfamiliar with what each is called etc. I'd be great if you guys could explain them to me lol.

For the record, here's my girl:

I'm going to see her later and will take more pictures.

Welcome and congratulations on your new walking horse....

This is one of my favorite sites.....

Walkers West - The Ancestor Gallery

Lots of history in this site.....

A walker can do a lot of different gaits, but the ones they're judged on are the flat walk, the running walk, and the canter....

That said, many can rack....most can pace.....some do the fox trot and the single foot......as well as a stepping pace......among others...

Call me biased....but god didn't make a finer horse IMO....
