Smile I finally got a video of Mystique foxtrotting...

When you watch it in regular speed, it looks pretty much like a regular trot. But if you press play, pause, play, pause, etc., you can see that the front leg in the diagonal pair is ever-so-slightly ahead of the hind leg.

Just wanted to share my video and educate people who aren't familiar with the foxtrot. It's a unique gait - it's the ONLY diagonal gait other than the trot. Every other intermediate gait is either lateral or square.

Mystique is so beautiful! I have never seen anything quite like blue eyes on a black horse!

Her Foxtrot looks really fast and smooth. For some reason, I think my mare might have more "nodding" to her head and body, but that might be because I have trouble differentiating between the flat walk and Foxtrot at times. They all seem to move a bit different, that's for sure.

Anyway, she's lovely!

Has she quite tripping? She certainly didn't look like she had trouble in the video. Also, it almost looked like she was wearing either hoofboots or bell boots in the video. Is that the case?

Thanks for posting it!

I love how she has this look of "Will you hurry up? I need to show off 8|" at the beginning XD

I was watching your Fendi tackless vid. It's funny to see how spirited he is! Such a palomino!

Yeah, she doesn't have a ton of head bob. This is how much they're supposed to do it in the show ring:
BTW - If you're having trouble differentiating between the running walk and the foxtrot, turn around and look at her butt and tail. It should bob up and down in the foxtrot and stay level in the running walk.

She's still tripping, but she only does it at the walk. I always put bell boots on her because she sometimes clips her front legs with her back legs when she canters. Thanks for watching : ]

No suspension! There are 2-3 feet on the ground at all times.

She's so gorgeous! Would this be a foxtrot? People say his walk is a "fox walk" as well.

YouTube- Riding Paso Fino gelding double
His walk is actually a "flat foot walk" or just "flat walk." It's basically just a fast walk. Mystique does it too. It has the exact same footfalls as a walk and is perfectly square.

A "fox walk" is a term for a slow foxtrot. It has the exact same footfalls as a foxtrot - just slower. It's nothing like a flat foot walk, which is what your guy is doing.

I found it a little hard to tell which legs were which in the video because it was a little dark, but I mostly saw lateral gaits (pace, stepping pace, and running walk). He was doing a stepping pace most of the time. I watched the video of you leading him a while back and saw him do a perfect foxtrot the entire time. The more weight you put on a horse, the more lateral they get, so it was probably just because you were doubling on him and he's not used to that much weight (not that it's harmful or anything - it just makes it harder for him to stay in a diagonal gait).

She is so beautiful! Thanks for posting that, I could tell the difference between that and a normal trot, it looks super smooth.
