Default my new paso

I got a new paso this week.I have never in my life seen one as big as this one. he is 14.3 and weighs 1250 lbs, yes I know he looks Horrible.I bought him some of the low starch grain and am feeding it as directed. any other ideas what would help him lose weight without starving him?I have never owned a paso and really know nothing of the breed.

Exercise, exercise, exercise. Even just walking in the round pen everyday can help get him moving. Since it's summer, you can probably afford to cut back on his hay. Avoid mid-day 'snacks'. What is the name of the feed you are feeding him?

Well, lunge him everyday, walk him outside, cut back on hay/feed, ride him, etc. Anything you can think of to get him moving and not eating too much. Even turn out in a paddock eating, is better than sitting in a stall with nothing to do.

Congrats on the paso! One of my all time favorites. With monitored diet (not a lot of extras and for treats id give a piece of carrot stay natural as possible as to avoid excess sugar and exercise the weight will come off. With one of ours we wanted to feed him every day so when we did feed he got a double handful. Good luck with him, just remember that paso's are a little more flighty than a quarter horse or tennessee walking horse, we have one paso thats a great well broke horse but if anyone with doubts rides her or anyone riding her gets nervous she loses her mind. Pasos are very willing and are quick to learn and eager to please. Most of them need a confident rider though because they are very responsive like i said and that also means responsive to feeding off ppls nervousness and fear. Anyways keep us posted about how hes doin and lets see a pic of the big boy...
