mystery gaited ponies

Hi! I just rescued two ponies and it turns out they are gaited!

They are about 14 hh tall. I will look more closely at their gait today. Here's a conformation shot of one of them:

And a head shot:

Any guesses about them? Seems like they may have been broodmares, which would imply that they are some sort of breed worth breeding...

Maybe rocky mountain horses? I see alot of them in that color.

What gait (s) do they do? That would make them easier to identify. Also could be Tennessee Walker or Missouri Foxtrotter or Paso Fino. Have seen everyone of these in the color shown.

Rocky Mountain and Paso Fino are smaller like that. Usually TWH are a little larger, like 15hh, but one of ours is only a little over 14. What gaited breeds are common in your area? Around here almost everything is TWH, so it would be my first guess in this area.

My first guess would be TWH or Rocky Mountain. I've had quite a few walkers who were only 14.3 or so, adn I had a walker/shetland cross that looked like a small walker and was gaited naturally.

I'd guess a Rocky or Paso.

Who/Where did you rescue them from? What do you know about their histories - ages, health problems, etc?

They are cute. I am not sure about gaited breeds because I have only dealt with stock type horses.

I got them in NJ but supposedly they are from TN originally. They are about 6, according to the vet. They were sold to me as a driving team, but after spending a few days with them I kind of doubt they are broke to drive... they don't seem to have been handled, at least for a few years. I need to observe their gait more closely, luckily I have today off so I am planning on giving lunging a try with them. Wish me luck...
