New to the forum TW/Welsh Mare

Just wanted to pop in and say hello with our newly aquired mare, Lady April. She is a 15 year old Tennessee Walker/ Welsh Pony mix at 14 hands even. We are working on ground manners, she loves to take walks with the kids bareback and is quickly finding her footing on the new farm land. We saddled her for the first time ourselves yesterday and she did great.

I am new and havent figured out inserting pics yet but I uploaded a few to our profile

Hello and thank you.. She is gaited (from what we were told) but we really havent pushed her to hard yet or gotten a solid trot.. She just walks along smooth and steady.

If she's gaited she shouldn't trot.
I'd love to see a video of her moving!

My husband however was s founding member of teh local 4H group and has been around horses all his life.. The last owner says she is gaited but I will try to get a video

My new guy is supposed to be a TWH, but he's only 13.3 hands, yet gaited. I thought maybe he was an American Walking Pony, which is the cross between TWH and Welsh. I read that the breed was supposed to be a smaller gaited horse with an Arab-type head. My guy does not have an Arab head at all, it's all TWH. It looks like yours does as well, am I correct? Maybe we both have AWP's?

I believe so.. Lady April is a TWH and Welsh mix, so supposedly a American Walking Pony.. I need to get video but I have my mother in from Florida and am only able to spend about an hour or two a day with her right now.. As soon as that darn storm goes away my mom will be heading home and I can get back on track..

It will be fun to compare them. I am a 5' tall adult woman, so I am very happy with the little size.Although I may tell people he's 14 hands, not 13.3. You know, just so I can act like a grown-up!
