There was so much confusion between the Paso Fino and the Peruvian Paso that the Peruvian breed dropped the paso part. The breeds are not from the same country and have little common linage. The gaits are quite different too. Paso is just step in Spanish. So generally nowadays Paso refers to a Paso fino and Peruvian to a Peruvian horse.
So true. I didn't think there was a smoother ride until I rode a Peruvian!
