The total relaxation was some of it, she said to lower my stirrups and sit back in my saddle. Haven't tried any of it yet because, Bay, my mare was abused by her previous owners. So we are learning to trust again and bonding. Thank you so much for your post, I hope when I saddle her up again she will be happier about it. I've trained a lot of horses in my life but this is my first work in rehabbing an abused horse... Using all of my Daddy's quiet patience training he taught me as a kid. Works on young green ones and it seems to be working with Bay. I'll update as we go.
Please do! Good on you for giving your paso a new and safe home. I'll never understand people who abuse animals. All I can think off is what my Grandpa told me... If you see a man abusing his dog or horse, whip his ass on the spot. He wasn't very PC and rather direct! LOL!!!

I am also a fairly new paso owner. I've owned my mare for 16 months. It was a lot of work gaining trust and being that I am new to horses altogether, it has been trying at times....most rewarding though :). I rode her for the first time Saturday. I rode her 5 minutes. Lol. But, it was great! She's very loyal. Wouldn't trade her for the world. Congratulations on your new horse! We also have a horse from United!

Thank you STTGuy! It is work I've always wanted to do and wasn't really looking for it but she found me.. and when I looked into her eyes I could not walk away and feel good about myself. It will be a long and worth journey helping both myself and Bay. I will definitely keep updating.

AmateurOwner.....Riding for 5 minutes is sometimes enough isn't it? Congratulations! I usually don't ride a new horse for at least 3 months; however, with Bay I am going to give it more time. She is doing so much better but I want complete trust.... if they trust you and love you they will do anything for you. I will be leaving for a week's fishing trip on Saturday July 5th, this is the first year I'd rather not go, I still have a family though... I am going to take my laptop but for the three days at the fishing house I'll have no internet service. I am going to miss Bay but maybe a little break for us will be helpful. Give us both a bit of time to think... and yup I definitely believe Paso's are thinking! Y'all have a great day.

Yay! Other paso owners! Almost all the horses in my area are Pasos so I have been getting a lot of experience with them lately. I have to say I may never go back! You just cannot beat the smooth ride and willing attitude. The three in my group are all very different, my mare is quite the "mare" on the ground, can be pushy and is not a loving type but she is solid as heck under saddle. We have another guy who has a little quarter horse in him so he has several speeds of trot in addition to the gaits and he's quite the lover. Then we have JD who was terribly mistreated but has a great home now. He is full of fire but if you handle him right his gait is killer (as in good) and he can MOVE. Congrats!
