Paso Fino Tack is from another planet

I recently got my first horse, an 11 year old paso fino mare. When I purchased her, the seller included a saddle, bridle
With bit, a rawhide jaquima with pisador and pulley reins. Being able to identify the stuff is about as far as I got. I tried riding her and she seemed very uncomfortable with the bit so I rode her with just the jaquima and she did ok. The jaquima is a Colombian rawhide one with an extremely long rawhide rope attached to it. It's hideous and annoying and it has three big hard bumps on the noseband that seems like it would hurt. Also the bit seems huge. I thought about getting her a regular more simple bit, but my riding coach told me I needed to use the same bit she is used to. My question is what will happen if I change her bit and what about a dr.cooks bitless bridle? Would it be a good idea to get one one those since she did ok in the jaquima? What bits and bridles to other people find to work well on Pasos? Help!

Just try it and see how she does. If she goes in it better, awesome. If she doesn't, then try a different bit.

I used to ride mine in a low port curb bit and when i wanted to go bridleless id use a mechanical hackamore.

he looked nervous in just about anything though- he was a very sensitive horse and pretty hyper too- he was a goodun' (good one) though.
