Paso Fino Western Pleasure?

Hi, I bought myself and my daughter a paso fino mare who is very well trained. I am reasonably knowledgeable regarding Local QH or non gaited WP showing, but The paso showing has really got me confused. Can anyone enlighten me on how to go about preparing my daughter (11 yr.s) for next year's show season with her paso? What are the similarities and differences between gaited WP and non gaited WP? Going to post this in the WP section too.......

Showing
You cannot show a gaited horse in regular WP because the gaits are not comparable. In gaited pleasure classes, they will probably ask you for a show walk, show gait, and possible canter. Here's an old video of me showing my 25-yr old Paso Fino in Easy-Gaited Pleasure and Equitation; we've been grand champions in pleasure and eq two years running:

Yearling
No real advice as I haven't been in a horse show since I was a kid but I do occasionally stop to watch ones I stumble across. I have noticed on several occasions that the gaited horse is often thought to have some weird lameness in the small open shows at least.

I had a neighbor who like to show her gaited standardbred and if the mare got worked up she would pace and even rack a bit. You could hear people grumbling in the stands about riding a lame horse. Horse wasn't lame, she would just revert to her natural way of going when she got nervous. The more my neighbor fought the gait the more worked up the mare would get. I even got snarled at by spectators when in trying to help my neighbor and my horse friend I yelled into the ring let her pace. The horse was fast loosing it. Once she was able to use her feet the way she was intended to the mare calmed and started responding to the rider again. My neighbors daughter was riding, she was 11 years old. Small open show with a $4 entry fee. Instead of a trot they got a step pace. They need to get over themselves and let kids learn.

I still get aggravated thinking about those closed minded people.

The mare wasn't too long off the track. When she got nervous she did what she was trained to do from a young age. Just green to the riding world. She was an nice horse. Had I not had a bunch of horses at the time I would have taken her in a heartbeat.

I don't think you can show gaited in a non-gaited class because the Paso will not trot, but instead corto (which is a 4 beat gait rather than a 2 beat gait). Try checking out the PFHA competitions. There are Western Pleasure classes (though I've only ever seen adults compete in them). Also you can try checking out some open gaited breed competitions.
