Registering a saddlebred

Has anyone had success in registering a rescued saddlebred?

Do you have the original papers for it, or any paperwork, was it ever registered, and do you have a transfer, and know the registered name?

You need to call the association and ask them what you have to do to register the horse, and what it will cost and tell them what papers you have, or don't have and let them help figure it out.

If horse has changed hands some, without benefit of papers that went with it, you might have to track all of them down who were prior owners too, and that can be more trouble than it is worth.

Was the horse a rescue that you have gotten from the rescue, or?

Many rescues will not let the papers go with horses of course.

Have you contacted Saddlebred Rescue? They have been successful on several occasions in finding horses' identities that have fallen through the cracks, were never transferred, got separated from their papers, so on and so forth.

If this was a likely once registered horse, after you have gone through ALL of your research and think you know for certain that the horse you have matches the horse you think he is, you can order a DNA kit and confirm it.

If it is a horse that was likely never registered, there is not much you can do, unless you know the breeder and are pretty confident on who his sire and dam are and can confirm it with DNA.
