Post Saddleseat

So I havn't seen many threads about Saddleseat. So I am officially dedicated this to tips , rules, outfits, horses, pictures, oils/supplements, pretty much anything to do with saddleseat.
I just started this year with a Kentucky Mountain horse and need some help(:

You need to decide on what style of riding you wish to do.

I thought saddleseat was a style of riding (like dressage)?
Maybe that would make a good 1st question.

Get and read Saddleseat Equitation by Helen K. Crabtree. I'm not a fan myself but I've read the book and it explains the discipline quite well.

Yeah saddleseat is the type of riding. It is mostly for gaited breeds to show off a nice smooth gait..

That video gives you an idea of Saddleseat equitation. Saddleseat however does cover many classes. The riding style is the same but, there are 5 gaited and 4 gaited. Pleasure and Park horses. So yes, it is a style but there is variation in what you might wish to do. This generally depends on your horse and where his/her talent lies. There are also many different breeds that are ridden saddleseat.

This one is of the 2012 five gaited world championship. Not the best video as it seems to have been taken from the nose bleed section but, gives you an idea of the fun in the class. High energy and a blast to ride. Note that much of the equitation falls by the wayside here. This is about showing the horse to it's very best.

Here are 3 gaited park horses. Very animated, classy.

Some other Saddleseat breeds.
Friesians

Morgans

Arabians

There are many other breeds that go Saddleseat, including the Kentucky Mountain horse. This just gives you an idea of what it looks like. Fun to ride, high energy and exciting. Good luck to you.

Can someone tell me what is up with the saddlebreds tails in those videos. I understand they are braced but are the in some sort of bag.The bottom of the tails look blunt but then its like they missed pieces at that.

Oh, the first video. It rained very hard the night before. That is one of the years in recent years, where it rained so hard the night before was all but cancelled. The tails are tied up to keep them clean. Some of these horses' tails drag the ground. You will see a few of them have wrapped legs, another concession allowed at shows in unfavorable conditions.

No 4 gaited horses. 5 Gaited and 3 Gaited. Video of equitation class posted twice, so added video of Skywatch.

And most of tails are not braced, only some.

And this is the immortal Skywatch, 5 Gaited WGC and a wonderful horse to watch in the ring. Also shows the horses competing against him in class to some degree. I've put horses in the ring against him and it was a battle royal.

Horses make me a better person.
