Of course I'm against soring.

I've said this many times on this site. It's a sore spot for me. Up here in Alberta, at our TWHBEA and AWHA shows, you will never see a sored walker. Our class lists will include Trail Pleasure, Country Pleasure and Flat Shod. No big lick classes, no chains, no stacks. This is why I support our shows and will continue to do so.

I love my Walking horses and we need to promote sound walking horses without stacks, chains, etc. It is a pleasure to train and show these horses, it is so technical, I absolutely love it.

It's interesting you ask this today, because just last night my fiance, Dan, and I were watching TWH show videos and also videos by Animal Rights groups on scoring through YouTube. As a kid I remember watching them being shown while waiting for my events to be scheduled. I was mesmerized at their bouncy running walk and the high stepping lope. One of these shows, I remember walking by a big rig with these giant horses looking down at me as the rest of them were being loaded. I saw a guy rinsing the floor of the stall area of that huge trailer with a spray hose and how bloody the water was, upon asking my foster mother about it, she said she didn't know. It's possible she didn't but I think she was just protecting my innocence as she knew I would cry if I knew they were hurting those horses to make them walk/run that way. For the record I am against ANYTHING done to cause pain or injury to ANY ANIMAL for the purpose of what is considered breed standard or any other lame excuse. I don't care if it's a mouse or a whale...All creatures, great and small, deserve to be treated with humane respect and be loved no matter what. Yet, Man, in his shallow nature must have something fashionable, no matter what the cost.

I am also not sure how anyone can see a horse with those stupid giant horse shoes on and think that is alright.

In the video that Absitvita posts you see a horse almost falling on it's face because it can't even walk decent due to the pain. Who watches these shows? Who thinks that is alright? The blatent abuse bothers me but so does the acceptance by others. It is just so evil, how do we look the other way?

I wish I could go to those shows with a couple dozen really good farriers and pull shoes off every one of the horses, wash their legs off and load them into trailers to go to good homes. Yeah, I guess all I have is my dreams but I wish that would happen. If I am going to dream that there are multiple paddy wagons out there loading up the horse owners, trainers, grooms and heading off to jail where they would have their feet sored.

I just realized this thread was started in May, but it's interesting at how it was bumped today....I was considering starting a thread about it today. God works in mysterious ways! ::Feeling Loved!::

God sure does work in mysterious ways AbsitVita. I was looking something NOT related to horse soring and the video popped up. I was sick to my stomach watching it so I should have shut it off but the curiosity side of me watched it. I hate it, I am sickened by it but I watched it through tears. I felt angry at the man beating the horse to get it to stand up on mangled sore feet then beating it while it stood in the cross ties all the while at least 4 other men watched this without saying anything or trying to stop him. Do they go home at night and hug their kids or do they beat them too? Cruelty is cruelty whether it is animals or humans and we should all be sickened by it.

It also led me here to this forum. Maybe something good came of my sad video watching today?

If you think about it, in a huge way, it's boils down to cheating. Who's horse can gait the most extreme, the horse suffers immensely. I say we true horse lovers band together and protest this as much as possible! Perhaps making pin buttons to wear in comps, shows and other events!

For the record, I chose not to watch the youtube clip - just the photo frame alone brought tears to my eyes, and what I can imagine I'd see would make me retch. We, as humans, have been given the privilege of animal husbandry, and the only comfort I can perceive from this is that God Is Watching.
