SSH Bloodlines (Got Her Papers Back!)

I got my mare's papers back in my name today! I'm extremely happy. I feel more like a horse owner now that she's officially mine.

After overcoming my little joy trip, I actually looked at her papers... And had no idea what I was looking at. I know her sire, but her mare's side is a mystery. Heck, her sire's side in a bit of a mystery! I've seem a picture of him and that's it.

Flash of Lightening Spotted Saddle

What do you make of this? Probably nothing special. I mostly just want to know if she's bred to walk or rack, and what (if anything) she's bred to do.

My trainer is magic with bloodlines. I'll have her take a peek.

BUT it looks to me like she's bred to rack. But she may very well be bred to do a saddlegait. A lot of SSH are. And it's acceptable for them, it can win shows.

But it's so... Not a real gait-ish. :P The recent craze in the SSH world is basically to have a spotted walker. Prepare for show shunning.

Most SSH's are spotted Walkers.

Back in the 40s there were lots of "spots" on Walkers (and a very large percentage were roan). You also saw lots of whites, sorrels, chestnuts, etc. Blacks were rare.

Sadly there are also a bunch of sore-lickers in the SSH world. If they get the upper hand in your show circuit it will be "Katy bar the door."
