may help

Turn down hill to push his hind end up under him and set his head up. Going down hill makes the horse get its hind legs up under him. Most of its in the head. When we green break colts the head is a major point of getting the gait for us. When the head is up and shaking up and down they are usually hitting a good lick. We always start our colts that go into pads in a pace cause for some reason when you put the heavy pads on they fly right into a walk. Jmo
