Hahaha, I'm a pretty laid back person. I understand that my mom and I own the only gaited horses in our barn, and are sometimes the first gaited horses people have seen. I enjoy using it as a chance to educate people about their history and current use.
When I occasionally come across a more ignorant/naive person who informs me his gait is unnatural, or wrong, it is sometimes hard to hold my tongue. A lot of the teenagers at my barn have a reputation of having some pretty bad attitudes. I'm 19, so I'm old enough to understand that being a brat (or telling a person how ignorant they sound) won't make people who don't want to learn do so, but young enough that I can still influence some of the teenagers at my barn to not start cat fights and drama, without being seen as an old adult who doesn't understand. I attempt to be a good influence, and the barn managers have showed a lot of appreciation that I don't get mixed up in the drama.
This is one of those cases where it definitely was not worth getting into an argument with a woman who I could tell was pretty sure she was an olympic trainer. There have been times, however, where someone has run up on me on a trail, or shot a BB gun WAY too close to my horse and I for comfort, and I have chased their butts down and given them a piece of my mind.
I attempt to choose my battles as wisely as someone my age can manage to.
