My riding for all these years is walk walk walk. When im training a horse.twh. Gaited in anyway.or just plain quarter horse.walk is the main gate used.. just before the owners come to get there horse..i start into trot.. canter. Figure eights. Reigning . I figure for every hour in the arena working they need about 3 hours outside of it.walking.trails. And normal work.to keep them from getting to hot. Most horses love to run..so I find that the easiest part. But a natural head set walk. Ears flopping. Relaxed on a lose reign is hard to get your horse to do. Anyways. Just my two cents.. have enjoyed the topic alot.. ride safe everyone

Isn't indian trot another name for indian shuffle? Indian shuffle is gaiting.

Four beat is smoother and last longer then two beat. Just a fact. As far as smoothness in riding. Give me a good four beat gate. Low head set. Ears flapping. And im in heaven. 30 years of walkers and I love them. Im back to quarter horses.. and do miss a good walker at times. Like when im way back in the mountains..hit a good open logging road..20 miles to get out. I really really miss a good running walk right then..lol.. ride safe everyone.
