What are 'carrots'?

Could someone please tell me what the carrots mean on here? I am new to the forum, and although I did find the Carrot Kitchen, I don't know what to do with it!

Also, I got a pop-up saying that this member left carrots unattended and did I want to take some. What does this mean? Am I 'supposed' to?

It's just a game. Carrot kitchen is to use some of your carrots to "bake" and give those things to members as a thank you or whatever.
