Is it normal that temperature goes that low in Australia during wintertime?

Yesterday we had the coldest morning in 17 years.

But it does normally go at least -5 Celsius here in Canberra. Everyone in Australia seems to know Canberra as a cold place! We normally have lovely sunny winter days after morning like that though. My horses got their rugs off a few hours after those photos were taken.

That's interesting . I've always thought that it doesn't go under zero in Australia except maybe in very, very rare cases and high on mountains.

Wow awesome pics. We had a couple of days like that just a little bit ago. Its been a freezing winter (compared to a normal one)
TaMMa89, it depends on where you live. I know that in the south of Western Australia (where I live) it can get quite a bit down below zero every night in winter.
