Thats all horrible! I'm glad to live in Canada! It may be cold but at least we don't get this. Hopefully mother nature will calm down soon.

Ahaha you said "roofs of two story horses"

    Yikes, that is absolutely frightening.

I've got to ask, though, when he says "wheely bin" does he mean a wheelbarrow?

^^Ha ha, no, a wheelie bin is a bin that you put your household waste in - big bin on wheels!

Related term - wheelie-bin bowling. It's when you are young and stupid and you hang out the window of your friends car holding a wheelie bin, get to about 20km/hr and then let go of it. Usually done the night before bin collection for maximum effect. Yep, big winner with the neighbours.

On a more serious note - cyclone Yasi has hit the Queensland coast:
Cyclone Yasi, Stronger Than Katrina, Hits Australia - Businessweek

My thoughts are with all the Aussies, and particularly the poor Queenslanders. We're a tough bunch and I know that there are difficult times ahead but there's no dampening the Aussie spirit.

Yeah, I have a growing respect for the Aussie spirit. My sis inalw live outside of Brisbane, but I think she is well south of the area threatened by this cyclone.

As for Katrina, it wasn't so much the winds , but the breaking dikes that caused the flooding.

I hope she is OK! How horrible to be that close.

As for the article - sorry I didn't mean to compare it to Katrina, that's just the first article that popped up on Google!

Wow, this is just horrifying! It is great footage though to show how quickly this can happen, and how quickly peoples lives can be turned upside down.... What a shame.

I think things have settled in Queensland, and now the cylcone . The cleanup will be horrendous and very expensive. I don't know why the US government has not said anything about offering help to Australia. Heck , we help everyone else, the the Aussies are good friends and allies. Maybe they have offered help,. But I haven't heard. Even if Australia can manage on their own, it's only courteous to offer.

    Obama? Are you listening?
