Anyone from Saskatoon/Area?

Well last night my boyfriend asked what I would think about moving to Saskatoon, his boss has lots of work there for him and rent is cheaper then Fort McMurray, it would be better then here to get ahead in the long run he said..

Honestly, my biggest concern is riding. There is not much riding here, not even a ring, I don't want to move to a place like here again (horse-wise).

So my question is, what type, if any, riding facilities are there? Is there a show circuit? I would really enjoy competing in Hunter/Jumper & Dressage at a higher level again. What about boarding stables?

Any input would be much appreciated!

Saskatoon has become the overflow city for Ft. Mac. My son lives there and he says the rents are soaring upward. Stables are Willow Ridge, Pelmac, Avondale, Edgewood plus more. Edgewood might be the best one to get the info you seek.

Saskatoon has the vet school at the university - nice to have.

It does seem to have a health horse community. If you're boarding, there's a few different levels of board available - I've seen outside sheltered (no indoor arena) to full care inside (with indoor arena and trainers/instructors available) advertised at various times. If I had to guess, I'd say there's probably more english riders than western but each discipline is represented. There are some show circuits that are breed and discipline specific within the province; there are some 'schooling' shows available - some of the bigger boarding stables (like Rusty Spurs and Willowridge) used to put on their own little shows and they also used to bring in outside instructors.

There's quite a few acreages springing up around the city - some of the homes are large, expensive looking pieces and others are more mid-range homes.

Thank you for the input!

Saddlebag- I was thinking that since Saskatoon is the new "boomtown".. I have lived in Fort Mac for a year and a half now, and rent is silly, we pay $1800 a month for a little basement suite! It would make sense that rent is soaring there as well.

Chevaux- Thank you, that helps a lot. At least I know there IS a horse community there, makes me happy if this plan does go through. I have no friends here honestly, there is no way to meet people that are interested in the same things as my self, so a riding stable would make me much happier!
