    Bell's Palsy

A friend has had this since last Monday and it has worsened by the day. Today she had swollen glands and an ear infection and even her ear was swollen. The first course of meds was prednisone to reduce the inflammation in the nerves. Today Antibiotics and a good pain killer have been added. Has anyone on HT had Bell's? I'd sure be interested if you'd care to share your experiences. Thanks

My wife had it after our daughter was born and it lasted about 2 months. Apparently it is more common after pregnancy than we knew.

An older co-worker got it out of the blue and was on medication same as your friend. It lasted about 4-5 months in his case, but I don't know any of the details in his particular case.

Sorry I couldn't be more informative.

I have this and it is the devil. I first showed symptoms at the age of 8, I believe. My mom didn't believe me when I said something was wrong with my face!! Finally a week later we went to the doctor and I was diagnosed. Along with the facial paralysis, I would get dizzy. I had to wear an eye patch while sleeping. In the past 10 years I've had 3 or 4 episodes. One has only been severe. Usually I notice it moreso in the fall/winter. Along with dizziness, I lost some hearing in the affected side. To this day, the side of my face I get it on looks different to me, not to others. It's quite a PITA but people understand. I was always terrified of being mocked(still am) and not once has anyone made fun of me.
Just tell them to keep up with the prednisone and it will be fine. Usually this is something you deal with your whole life, from my understanding.

My wife has never had another episode and our daughter will be 13 on Halloween. My co-worker hasn't had another episode in over 6 years. I'm not sure how much that affects your friend, but thought it might add some comfort to know that there are cases that are a 1 time episode.
