I might be joining the big brother big sister program. :D

i am really excited to volunteer and introduce a little to my life. i have 3 younger siblings, 2 older siblings with children of there own, and i feel like i have lots of kid experience plus working at a national park as a guide who focused more on the children programs, i find this new program will be a good adventure for me.

in the area i am volunteering for is a low income community in NJ and they will let me do alittle bit of all the programs. (help with school work, take them out to a movie or the park, introduce them to new things etc etc)

has anyone else every volunteered with this group before? what were your experiences? anything you guys think would be good to do with a little etc etc.

would love to hear all about it

I'm unfamiliar, but curious on what it is.

I've been adopting kids from low-income families for X-mas for the last couple years (my organization "adopts" the school in very poor area around here, so you can pick who you want). I really enjoyed.

thanks everyone, i am already really excited. i just hope i can help the little they give me in some way and maybe just maybe introduce them to horses if i get permission..not riding but grooming and such.. would definitely be an eye opener for them.

I've worked with the Special Olympics and was a buddy in the Miracle League baseball program (which is a hoot) till I retired and left Little Rock, but have never been in the BB/BS program, although I understand it is a good program. Kudos, and good luck...

The Big Brother/Sister program has been around a long time and is excellent. We've never volunteered for them but did volunteer for a police community outreach program and the kids are happy to do anything you want. We actually did a horse activity with our mares since none of the kids had ever been around horses. It was great, but it did take a couple months to set up since the town attorney had to be involved to handle the liability coverage/concerns/waivers/etc.

Good luck..volunteering for children is on the top of my list.
