Fantastic news! I hope you'll post more updates as your training proceeds. I've always been curious about working in the police force.

We have 13 positions to fill. We had over 400 applications. After the initial screening, we ended up with 14 possible hires. And, that is BEFORE to interview!! We will be lucky to get 3-4 hires out of this whole process. The requirements for the job make it harder and harder to fill these slots. The skills needed to be an effective officer are the same skills so valued in the private sector (which pays far better).

Wow, that really puts it into perspective! But, of course, you don't want to lower standards just to fill the positions. Quality over quantity . It certainly makes me more confident in the officers out there knowing how gruelling a process it is to get in (and makes me that much more motivated)!

Thanks for the words of support everyone!
Allison I can't wait to get started, the effort that went into just getting in is motivation enough in itself to want to excell in the course. I enjoyed my short time as a correctional officer, but know that I would have become very bored if I'd stayed for more than a few months. Especially when all I could think about was my police application! I'm sure it was amusing for my prisoners, seeing the trainee coming back from lunch in tears of joy!

Starting tomorrow, I'm so excited, like a kid before their birthday! Getting my uniform fitted this morning, then my last medical check up.

Congrats from one SA to another! I too am looking to apply for the police force, once I have a bit more life experience behind me (currently in high school, 19). My friend (who rides at the same place as me/where I work) is also currently working toward applying for the police force - she went to a information night this week and told me all about it - hard work, not for the uninspired, but going to be so worth it as you know! Have fun tomorrow you deserve it. Must be so exciting having your uniform fitted!
