Bullying: 2, Everyone else: 0

As some of you know, last November my friend committed suicide. She was bullied at school, home, and in public. The night she died the bullies followed her to a family event and proceeded to mess around with her, her family interfered, but it was too late. She killed herself that night.

Last night, her brother committed suicide. He too was bullied at school. I don't have many details at this moment because I did not know him very well. I do know that he was slightly retarded.

I'm not the type of person to go out and adamately protest something. Just ask a lot of my friends. These recent circumstances however, have led me to the measures that I normally wouldn't take. Bullying needs to stop.

Every victim who commits suicide is the friend of someone, whether they are direct friends or not. The pain from losing a friend is more than I can describe. No one should ever have to go through that pain. So I'm going to challenge you all. I want to you to find at least one person everyday to say something nice to; compliment them. And if you see them getting beat up or pushed around and you know that it isn't jokingly, step in and stop it. You just may save someone's life and someone from unmeasurable pain.

If you know someone who has comitted suicide from bullying or for any reason. Post here and help me keep this thread alive.

Tempest, although I know your post is heartfelt and has some very good ideas, people who commit suicide do it for many reasons. The bullying may have just been the icing on the cake, so to speak.

Yes, it's wrong and people need to stand up for those who are being bullied, but it might not save the other person from taking their own life. You need to understand that.

People who kill themselves usually have something else going on either emotionally or psychologically that spurs them to take their own lives. It's never just one thing, and the problems go much deeper than being bullied.

I do agree that bullying isn't pleasant, and people who see it happening and don't step up to stop it are cowards by allowing it to continue.

I believe that hardcore bullying that last and lasts can drive someone in a state in which they ends up to take their own life.

I'm really sorry for your friend and her brother. I've personally very low tolerance for bullying and badmouthing.

Sorry it took me so long to reply back Always, I had to think about how to respond back without coming off as defensive or bratty, so I hope I'm successful. If I'm not, let me know.

I am aware that suicide usually does begin with something deeper, but there's no way anyone can stop that from occuring. At least if we try to take away one of the equation parts, the ones that can be taken care of (such as bullying), we have a chance to help these people out.

I hope that made sense and isn't immensely defensive. Like I said, let me know if it is.

I'm so sorry about your friend and her brother, that's so awful :( In my English class the other day we were talking about bullying and those who are bullied committing suicide and I was honestly shocked at how many people basically said they should 'get over it.' I know that most people will get bullied and that they do in fact just have to deal with it, but when it's to such an extent that people are following you and taunting you constantly it's just not right and is not something that you can just 'get over.' I also don't understand how people can be so mean to other people, it's awful.

It's getting to be a problem in my school, too, so we starting an Anti-Bullying Committee and then later formed a tolerance group called IMPACT, both which I am part of. We've done skits, ice breaker type exercises, eaten lunch with the elementary school kids to discuss things, and tomorrow the IMPACT group has something set up for the incoming freshman.

I am bullied horribly at school, so I know how it feels. However, I do not in any way allow the childish ones who do it to get to me...

I think it is better to try to fix those things that we can fix in ourselves. There will always be situations in life where people can say they are bullied.

It would probably easier to help the people with problems to learn to deal with life than it would be to stop people from doing anything that anyone else might consider being bullied.

Some people find simple honest truths to be the same as being bullied.
