I think the chicken...just because. I don't really have a reason (except maybe I like to eat chickens more than eggs ;) OK, horse related version of that: Which came first the horse or the foal? Just kidding that probably sounds stupid to everyone but me!

    This one is easy!

The egg. The chicken CANNOT be hatched without an egg. Some random genetic mutation or series of traits being bred for happened for the genetics that became the egg, but then the genetically unique animal was produced from that egg.

    The egg.
A chicken can't just magically appear - but two different types of birds could have mated to create the egg from which the chicken hatched. Same as how we get new breeds of horses. :)

Egg, genetic mutation inside the egg caused the chicken (and human interference created the chicken we know today).

Genetic mutation? But how would you get the mutation if there is no genetic material from the "chicken" to put it there? In fact, how is there an egg in the first place?! :)

some other bird species Same way there are hundreds of varieties of mice colors/coats. A random mutation appears and is bred for. Some extinct birds bred, a random genetic mutation occured while the DNA was being copied in the first few cell divisions (or even in one of the parents gamete) and the cells divided to create... chicken! Inside the egg, which then hatches
