Please, please just rip them out. It's 4 am here in Texas and I can't sleep. I went to the dentist a month ago and the x-rays showed the bottoms coming in. They wanted to take them out this month but I felt like I'd rather wait until they broke through the surface.

But now, I'm ready to bang my face into a wall!! My jaw, cheek, temple and even my head on the right side is just pounding. I can feel pressure on some front teeth (they're a bit crooked, weakest link I suppose) where they are being cramped. I have some painkillers left over from gallbladder surgery in July but I'm not sure.

Any suggestions would be helpful.. Or maybe a hammer.

Just get them removed! I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed last year. It wasn't so bad. I lost almost the whole day because I requested to be put under and then sleep almost the whole day after but I was okay. They gave me perca-something to take home but I was pain free with just Motrin.

i had to have all my wisdom teeth removed A.S.A.P years ago, when it came back they they pointed right into my other teeth..going right up into oncoming teeth...asking if i could wait till they grew into the gums ((scared of getting them removed)) i was warned not only if the teeth where left alone to grow up into the gums it would be EXTREMELY PAINFUL! but it makes removing the teeth much harder for the doctor. because they would need to work around your other teeth the wisdoms are pushing into and can damage your roots to your good teeth..

((right now almost nothing but painkillers will probably help you..the numbing gels you can get at the store will help a little bit, but most of your pain is most likely coming from your wisdom teeth pushing on your other teeth within your gums))

Going to get my wisdom teeth pulled was the scariest thing ((just walking into the building and sitting in the chair)) i scared myself more then anything, Once in the chair..I.V. in my arm....seeing all the machines and the beeping noises....was the worst thing...lol....i scared myself...(deathly scared of needles and this kinda stuff))...during the removal i was mostly out like a light, i woke up in the middle of it...and it just felt like someone rocking my head back and forth really hard...but very little pain.....being high on drugs i didn't really understand what was going on..Nor did i care..LOL..once i woke up.

it was pretty painless. my mouth was completely numb...looked as if hundreds of bees stung my gums. but it hurt very little, more uncomfortable then anything. Warning to you, when you do get them removed and come home. you will most likely fall asleep because of all the drugs ((they tell you too anyway)) put a towel over your pillow when you wake up...it may looks as if a murder just happened... don't worry its normal!...its going to be a bit hard to eat or talk for a few days...if its hard to open your mouth all the way, its normal too.

Don't wait, just get them removed. I waited 4 years, I had infection after infection and brutal pain. I was terrified to have them removed. My doctor and my dentist got together and tricked me into getting them pulled when I went in for a routine check up. Ended up being nearly painless, and healed SUPER fast. The whole healing process was less painful then the pain I felt with one day of infection.

oh boy, im going to go against the majority and say when i got mine out, i was so miserable!

i was out for 9...yes NINE days. It was horrible.

Going in, i was fine, found a IV, knocked me out, woke up loopy. slept on the couch. then that night...I was so incredibly sick. I took vicodin on an empty stomach...Id never had vicodin before, but anytime I take it, with food even, Ive been very ill. i for real did not get off the couch for 7 days...I crawled to the bathroom even. lol.

they had to call in anti-nausea drugs they give to chemotherapy patients for me. $240 for 6 tiny pills. but boy oh boy do they work! then from puking my guts up, i irritated my mouth, and ended up swelling up so bad, i looked like a chipmunk! i literally had golfballs in my mouth. it was so embarassing. my parents felt so bad for me, they didnt even take pictures to blackmail me with. hahaha.

i ate fudge bars, soup and jello for a week.

not fun. luckily, i'll never have to go through it again.

seriously, just get them out. you wont have it as bad as i did. ;-)

It totally varies person to person.. I know people that had awful recovery times and others that were up and atem in a day or two. I was somewhere in between.

I heard somewhere that you can either opt to have them removed before they come in and take the pain meds after for the healing, or the doc can give you pain meds to use while the teeth come in and then they can go in and remove the erupted teeth more easily- no knocking out or even laughing gas needed!

Hope you feel better soon OP!

Funny you posted this today! I had all four of mine out this morning and the oral surgeon said I had just about every risk factor for complications that exists other than them being infected. There are lots of details, but the long and short is you can get them out now and deal with some amount of discomfort (which, as others have said, will vary from person to person) or you can put it out and suffer that same amount of discomfort or worse when you finally do have to do it PLUS all the pain in the meantime. Just do it.

Right now, about 12 hours post-op and I am icing my jaw still, on the higher dose percocet and NSAIDs, in mild pain (can't ignore it, but not misery) from the swelling and extraction sites. I also already have a complication and moderate discomfort because the nerve that runs under the tooth in one side of my jaw got irritated/injured/smooshed by swelling or surgery which is resulting in half my jaw still being partially numb. Teeth, gums, and part of my lip. I also can't really eat. When I try to eat, the mild pain turns into much more significant pain. But again, do it now, deal with it, or suffer even more down the road. I too was worried about nausea from the pain meds, so I asked the doc and he gave me some pre-emptive anti-nausea meds, so I've been great there. Glad to get this over with to be honest, even given my issues.

I was also on the pretty positive experience of having them removed group. I didn't even have to experience them coming in because the two I did have (only bottoms) were sideways, so they dug them out. I missed one day of class (I was in high school) and was back in school the next day, taking a couple of percocet throughout the day to dull pain. Realistically, I could have been fine with just a few ibuprofen.

Spent 10 days pretty whacked out on the percocet then went back for my check up to get the syringe to clean out my sockets only to be told they were already healed and I was free to go.

But really, I'd just go get them taken out. It's a routine procedure and even if you are in pain from that, it will last much less than letting your wisdom teeth grow anymore.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

The girl who did my xrays said she was completely put under and they dislocated her jaw on purpose because they couldn't get to the tooth.

She said it's better to not be completely put under because they won't be as rough.

I've had my gallbladder out and the pain pills made me sick so I'll ask for something to help with that.

I hope I'm as lucky as most of you!

I had to have all four out at once under a general anaesthetic. My mouth was too small and they had to dislocate my jaw to get at them. I was fine apart from some swelling. No real pain and was eating pretty much normally the next day. Only side effect was mild clicky jaw from the dislocation. Good luck, it's not as bad as most people think :)

Some people who cannot tolerate hydrocodone. ( Vicodin). Can tolerate oxycodone. ( Percocet). As oxycodone is stronger , you can manage with less of it. One or ,two days is typical experience of pain, and a hard fall off your horse hurts more, but it doesn't stop you from riding, does it?,

Definitely get them out.

I had mine out, all four at once. The actual procedure went fine, no complaints.

Afterward the pain was so bad I was shaking )8 Pweepwee...

I, too, waited too long to get them out. I had no pain, but the dentist warned me that the longer I waited, the more difficult the process would be.
Before going under (I was completely knocked out) the dentist warned me that, if they touched the nerve beneath the tooth too much (and touching it a little would be inevitable) that my lower lip (just the lip, not the jaw xD) could be permanently numbed.
And, low and behold, waking up my lower lip was numb... which I only found out after going into the bathroom and seeing the shake I had been drinking dribbling down my lip.
I started crying, thinking it would be forever. xD

It went away, of course...

Heh. I had a tough time. x.x

Mine started coming through in 2011, I went to the dentist for x-rays and he said two were coming through (bottom), I was leaving for Europe the next week for six months and he said they'd be fine. Of course when I came back I kept putting it off because I was terrified of anesthesia. They'd flare up every other month then go back.

Then in mid 2013 they were really hurting me and it got infected and it was so painful. So I found a good dental surgeon and the next day they were coming out with IV sedation. It was so good to have them out. Only one was super bad, one was baddish, but I decided to get all four out to avoid potential problems later. It ached for a couple of days but I later found out the pills I was on were anti-inflammatories and that I think my mum had forgotten the pain killer pills, so I had just been taking ibuprofen and paracetamol (basic supermarket painkillers), and it was okay.

Sometimes people have a little more problems, but it was fine for me.

My lowers were pushing against the adjoining teeth which made them all ache a little. We opted for general anesthetic because the dental surgeon wanted to remove all four wisdom and two molars. That was done about 10 am. Had warm cream soup for lunch thro a straw, removed the packing at 4 as per instruction and ate a full supper, altho it was mostly mashed with extremely tender pork. It was over and done with and I was so glad I'd had it done that way.

I'm still due to get all 4 of mine removed... Or maybe just 2.

The first dentist was adamant I get them all removed. My orthodontist as well (He was absolutely horrible).

My new dentist feels like it is best to leave the bottom ones alone. They are impacted under the gumline along with being crooked and he said one of them will be really difficult to remove due to the location. Since they don't bother me, he said to just let them be, as with my other medical issues, it would be really bad for me to get them removed. I get frequent infections and get very sick off pain killers (other than morphine) so chances are removing them would just make things worse.

My top ones are in and totally sideways towards the outside. They came in horizontal instead of vertical. They have decay and will need removal eventually. My dentist is confident they will "pop right out in about 15 minutes"... I am skeptical and keep putting it off!

Thanks to my horrible orthodontist I am now terrified of anything related to my teeth. My orthodontist tortured me- he stabbed me once and was extremely rough every time it came to adjustments. And the stupid wire kept popping out in the back and ripping holes in my gums. I was at Disney world one time and it came loose and ripped holes in my gums. It was a continual problem. He would fix it and 2 days later the wire would come loose again. "oh just put some wax on it"- as if that is really going to keep a razor wire from doing damage!

I was so angry with my parents for making me go through that and not letting me switch to a different orthodontist. I would rather have had fillings than deal with all that pain... If I ever have children I'm not putting them through that! No matter how bad their teeth are.

I don't think the removal will be that bad... but I'm still terrified it will be!
