Somebody came to the Dr's office last week because they were sick! EWWWW! Now I have the crud. Sore throat, fever, runny nose......ick! I am so careful about germs too. I wipe everything down, I wash my hands constantly and use the germicidal foam. And I take vitamins by the pound.....and I still caught it.....ICK!
At our clinic there's an alcohol hand dispenser just inside the door and a notice on the door to ask for a mask if you think you may have a cold or flu coming on.
We have hand sanitizer and notices all over the place. I was subbing at an orthopedic clinic, so I really think whoever it was didn't even know they were coming down with something.
Ugh, I feel your pain. There is this nasty cold that keeps going around and my boyfriends son keeps giving it to me. I have never in my life been sick so often as I am when I am around that child. I swear I've started calling him the Plague baby!
I finally got over my last episode, so give me another week and I'll be sick again.
Hope you feel better soon. Our son is a police officer and I can't tell you how often he gets sick from all the people that he comes into contact with everyday.
Majority of your problem probably stems from the fact that you wipe everything down, using germ killing wipes, your immune system hasn't had enough to strengthen it.
The old saying was "You will eat a bushel of Dort before you die.' no longer rings true, people are so paranoid about germs that they are to sterile, the immune system then gets lazy and can turn on its own host because it needs a job.
The healthiest people I know are outside workers, stopping to eat they wipe their hands in their trousers then eat, not what one would call hygienic, but do these people ever get tummy bugs? Very very rarely.
I have to say I agree with Foxhunter on this one. I work at two barns and when I am doing the horses, cleaning stalls, rebedding, water, hay, etc. then have a bit of time to eat, I don't always go wash my hands, but wipe them off and then eat what I brought.
My aunt is a germaphobe and wipes down EVERYTHING. We have the same allergy reactions to medications but health wise, I am really rather healthy, am on no medications other than a few herbal supplements and an occasional allergy pill. She is always sick with something. Granted she is 12 or so years older than I am but always makes a comment how I am never sick.
I am mindful of hand washing after I go to the bathroom, or doing something that would really warrant having to wash my hands but for basic dirt, I am not always so careful. And you can actually kill good bacteria by always sanitizing and washing down things, along with the bad too.
I think you both probably have a point. I actually have just returned to office work, and only do it very part time. The last 10 years I've been working on my own in the barn and showing and so on, so didn't get too exposed to anyone because I rarely saw anyone. Now, I'm in Drs. offices a couple days a week and I suspect I'll catch everything that's going around, at least for a little while until I get used to being around people. I do wipe off the phone, desk and computer, because I'm usually replacing someone who is out sick and work is the last place they've been. And of course, a Dr's. office is a public place, so washing hands frequently is actually required.
I'm just whining because I don't usually get sick and now I've got a sore throat and a stuffy head and a fever.......makes me slow down and I'm not liking that.
The healthiest people I know are farm workers, not because they are working outside and don't mix with a lot of people but because they have a good immune system.
Some years back two friends were getting married. Her parents were quite well to do, he was a farm worker. It was a good wedding with a buffet. We ate well.
On the Sunday I had a friend call me to ask if I was OK. I confirmed I was. She then asked if I had suffered diarrhoea which I said no, I put down a looser than normal to the whisky I had consumed.
Turns out that many from her side of th family had salmonella and some of the elderly were in hospital.
Health people were called in and it was the chicken, all who had attended were asked if they had eaten the chicken, we all had and being healthy workers, most of us having worked that morning, we had had more than one helping.
I swear I'm like the person that jumps up and down while arm waving "pick me, pick me" with every human illness floats by. Add to the list migraines that occur about 12 hrs before it gets quite windy. My bible thumping neighbor tells me god is punishing me, or testing me, or it's the devil's influence.
Poppycock and hogwash! Did you tell your bible thumping neighbor that if they don't shut up your going to curse them? Sheesh...some people! :-|
