Luckily I've learned to stuff it down, pick myself up by the boot straps and walk with my head held high. If I had options I'd take them!

Do you guys rent the condo or did your mother purchase the condo?

If you rent the condo then I believe it would be the landlord that has to make sure all units have working smoke detectors or any fires will be null and void by the insurance agency.

If your mom owns the condo then your mother is required to provide the unit with smoke detectors. Again if there is a fire and it is found that there are no smoke detectors the insurance is going to fight paying for any loss.

Your mother needs to understand that if she causes a fire for being negligent and has no smoke detectors she has just screwed herself.

Yeah... You can lead a horse to water... At least my grandparents are taking it more seriously then they were before. Besides what we tell them they don't see anything wrong, she gets up every morning, drives a truck for ups for 12-14 hours, pays the mortgage, has nice things (new car, nice furniture, etc), pays all the bills, etc. She is 100% functioning in that respect. My grandma wanted me to go to some AA for family members, but I'm not the one who needs help, its her. I've learned how to not let my mother be a drag on me, there is nothing left for me to pick up and go without her, which I feel guilty for, but what else can I do? The only reason she will "get better" is if she WANTS to, which as of right now she doesn't, unfortunately.

No we own it. I've brought up the negligence thing to her, the putting people's lives at risk, the burning down of others memories... Everything. She thinks it will never happened to her because she burns candles "safely" and she has never had a problem. It's just like people who drive recklessly, especially teens, they NEVER think an accident will happen to them because they think they are good drivers and that they are in control. Well it only takes one accident to ruin your life or end it completely, but the people performing the unsafe behavior never think it will be them.
